September 9, 2019 – Sukup Manufacturing Co. is thrilled to announce that a team will once again build a Sukup Safe T Home® at the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game. The “Game Day Build” will take place immediately south of Reiman Plaza, located south of the Sukup Endzone Club, on Saturday, September 14.

The Build will begin at 11am. Members of the media are invited to interview the team and take photos from noon to 1pm.

Former professional athletes Tim Dwight, Sage Rosenfels, and Dallas Clark, as well as former Cyclone basketball player Lyndsey Fennelly, will lead the construction team. The team will also include former student athletes from both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones: Stacy Frese, Kyven Gadson, Jess Settles, Bret Culbertson, Georges Niang, Chad Greenway, Jack Whitver, Bret Culbertson, Jeff Woody, and more. Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg will also participate.

The Sukup Safe T Home® is a hurricane-proof structure the company created from a modified grain bin. The home is hurricane-, earthquake-, fire-, termite-, and machete-proof, and can be constructed in six hours. There are nearly 400 Safe T Homes® around the world in places like Haiti and Uganda. In 2016, all 200 homes in Les Cayas, Haiti, survived Category 4 Hurricane Matthew with minimal damage; by contrast, only 10% of traditional housing survived the disaster. They are used as school classrooms, medical clinics, orphanages, and family homes. Sukup partners with non-profit organization GoServ Global to deploy Safe T Homes® in developing countries.

A team of former student athletes also built a Sukup Safe T Home® ahead of the 2018 Cy-Hawk Series football game at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
